Aggiornamento per MeeGo 1.2
Nokia ha annunciato l’arrivo di un aggiornamento per MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan denominato PR1.3. Si tratta di una collezione di oltre 1000 fix, ma non aggiungono nessuna nuova feature. Oltre a molti veri e propri bugfix ci sono una serie di aggiornamenti per quanto riguarda le applicazioni dedicate a Facebook e Twitter per adattarsi alle modifiche alle API di questi.
Non è dato sapere se questo sarà l’ultimo update ufficiale per MeeGo che è stato recentemente affidato a Jolla, azienda nata per volontà di diversi ex-dipendenti di Nokia. È rumor di oggi che Nokia avrebbe regalato a Jolla dei brevetti per permetterle di gestire correttamente il progetto anche dal punto di vista legale. Nokia ha smentito, ma se l’avesse fatto ne saremmo veramente contenti.
La battaglia dei sistemi operativi mobile nel 2012
Vision Mobile propone una infografica con lo stato della lotta tra i vari sistemi operativi mobile, aggiornata al primo trimestre 2012. La battaglia è ovviamente tra Android e iOS con il primo a fare i numeri e il secondo a fare i soldi. Particolarmente interessante è la parte dedicata ai sistemi operativi nati e morti nella passata decade. Curioso il fatto che Symbian venga dato come sostanzialmente morto già dal 2006, va bene che il meglio era già passato, ma lo sviluppo è stato importante fino a non troppo tempo fa. Read more
Le novità di Qt5
Il mondo delle interfacce sta evolvendo rapidamente e negli ultimi anni abbiamo assistito a una nuova “speciazione” degli ambienti in ambito mobile (iOS di Apple, Android di Google, …), ma non si tratta solo di nuovi ambienti, ma anche di un nuovo modo di intendere l’interfaccia: niente più finestre da spostare col mouse, ma applicazioni a tutto schermo con cui interagire in touch. Qt ha dovuto sottoporsi ad un restyling interno per affrontare meglio le sfide del prossimo futuro e il risultato è Qt5. Vediamo le novità a qualche mese d’uscita dalla prima alpha. Read more
Per MeeGo potrebbe esserci una seconda vita
MeeGo è un sistema operativo basato su Linux che per lungo tempo ha rappresentato il futuro di Nokia, visto che in qualche modo si dovevano superare i limiti di Symbian. Quando si è arrivati alla prima release sull’N9 si era però già deciso di abbandonarlo perché si era deciso di puntare su Windows Phone. “My unqualified host name (localhost) unknown; sleeping for retry” with sendmail
Sendmail is a easy to use mail delivery service. I use it on my linux box for developing purposes for deliver test mails to an example.com domain to my local mail box. Very easy and effective.
Same time ago sendmail began to hang on startup apparently without any reason. I’m start it on demand through the command line, so it wasn’t an important problem because it doesn’t hang the operating system start up, but in the end I had to fix it. A look into the /var/log/maillog gave me the hint for a solution:
My unqualified host name (localhost) unknown; sleeping for retry
Obviously localhost was correctly defined in my /etc/hosts file, and everything else than sendmail seemed to work properly. I also checked the /etc/nsswitch.conf file and the host resolution settings was right (first the “file” option and then the “dns”).
Finally I found the problem in my /etc/resolv.conf file. The DHCP defined a “domain” called “lan” for my PC. So in fact the full name for my box was “localhost.lan” and was defined nowhere.
Not too bad, just added it in the /etc/hosts and everything works fine again 🙂
Nokia decide per un’altra tornata di licenziamenti
Le cose in Nokia continuano ad andare decisamente male. I nuovi Lumia basati su Windows Phone continuano a vendere solo una minima parte di quelle che erano le attese e in attesa dei nuovi modelli si decide di dare un’altra sforbiciata per contenere le spese e tirare avanti ancora un po’. Upgrade Simple Machines Forum to version 2.0 from 1.1
Simple Machines Forum (SMF) is one of the most used PHP forum’s avaible. I like it very much because it’s very easy to integrate with your web site. The SMF API is very easy to use and gives you a good way to use the forum session on the whole website.
Last year SMF finally officially upgraded to version 2.0 with some nice new features and a better framework. The upgrade procedure is in fact not very different from upgrades between minor version and the few issues that can present you are easy to resolve.
Before starting it could be useful to check your MODs writing down which one you are currently using because later you have to reinstall them all.
First of all go to Simple Machines Forum’s download section and grab the large upgrade package. If you have a non english installation I suggest you to download even the last language package. Pay attention to download the right version between the standard and the utf-8 package.
Next step is to extract all files from the packages and upload them to the server in the right position. Now access the upgrade.php script in your forum’s main folder.
If the upgrade script notices something wrong it will suggest you to run the settings repair utility. You can find it in SMF’s Tools section. If the wrong think is a missing script.js (The upgrade script cannot find script.js or it is out of date. Make sure your theme paths are correct. You can download a setting checker tool from the Simple Machines Website) in your theme folder then your theme is not compatible with SMF 2.0. Simply ignore the notice and proceed, the forum will switch to the default theme.
Now you’re ready to run the upgrade. It’s a good idea to make a backup of your database, the upgrade script will do it for you if you want, just check the option. Another good idea is to set the forum in maintenance mode, this way you will avoid data inconsistency.
The upgrade process will work by it’s own way. Once finished you have to cleanup your installation from upgrade files and you’re done with upgrading and you can start to customize your forum by reinstalling the MODs and choosing a new theme.
Cosa controllare se la batteria si scarica rapidamente
Vedersi scaricare rapidamente la batteria del proprio Nokia è sicuramente poco divertente. Se poi la carica finisce per durare meno di un giorno e non sapete perché allora la cosa può diventare un problema.

Resettare un cellulare Nokia
Ogni tanto può capitare di avere la necessità di riformattare il proprio smartphone. Può tornare utile per fare una pulizia rapida e veloce oppure per risolvere un problema non ben identificato. In ogni caso la procedura non è complicata anche se bisogna stare attenti per evitare di perdere i propri dati.
Effettuare il backup
Il primo passo da fare è quello di effettuare un backup utilizzando Nokia Suite. Se non c’è il link sulla sinistra basta andare su Strumenti > Backup. Il backup permette di selezionare varie categorie di elementi e credo che sicuramente si andranno selezionare almeno la rubrica, l’agenda e le impostazioni.
La procedura di deep reset cancellerà tutte le informazioni presenti sulla memoria interna C: e sull’archivio di massa E: Si salveranno invece le cose presenti sull’eventuale memory card F: Quindi fate attenzione a mettere in salvo anche tutte le foto, i video e altri file che avete memorizzato sullo smartphone.
Avviare il deep reset
Il deep reset permette di ripristinare il cellulare, come se fosse appena uscito di fabbrica. Per avviare questa procedura è necessario digitare *#7370#
Il cellulare vi chiederà conferma e se darete l’assenso si riavvierà dopo pochi secondi. A questo punto verrà visualizzato il logo Nokia per qualche minuto e poi il sistema operativo ripartirà come nuovo.
Ripristinare contatti, agenda e tutto il resto
Possiamo ora ripristinare tutte le cose che abbiamo intelligentemente salvato tramite backup tramite Nokia Suite > Strumenti > Ripristina. Se non abbiamo fatto altre cose nel frattempo basterà scegliere l’ultimo backup.
Ripristinare le applicazioni
Sfortunatamente la procedura di deep reset cancella le applicazioni presenti. Comunque è semplice ripristinare quelle che ci servono tramite tramite il Nokia Store che tiene traccia di tutto quello che installiamo.
